IMAX and my little olive grove
I know it's blurry, I know it kind of looks like an old dishrag...but try, please try to see a little magic in this picture. Because my pockets are emptied inside out and what I have in exchange is this picture. Of this little Moroccan olive grove. No backing out. No running back to my home town of Wellesley Massachusetts and doing the sensible thing.
The final papers are signed, the hundreds of thousands of dollars have been handed over. I am officially a woman with a mortgage. We are a family in debt. We are the owners of 8.5 acres in Marrakech.
So if you could -- and I know that it requires great feats of imagination -- when looking at this picture, try to picture yourself at an IMAX movie. That's it - squint your eyes a little. Can you see it 3 dimensionally yet? See those trees sprout up over your head 15 feet or so? Can you hear the birds? There are so many. Can you you reach down and pick one of the random wild flowers growing by your feet? You can tuck it behind my daughter Skylar's ear. Can you see our dog, Rocky, running through the grove to that open clearing in the back? Go ahead, you're in no rush, walk back on that little dirt road that runs from front to back. There is a row of fragile, young lemon trees on the right hand side. Okay, are you at the end of the dirt road? Now turn right. Yes, right there - right in front of you - are the Atlas mountains, in full view in the winter months. They're so beautiful that they make you want to hug yourself every time you see them.
I wish I had something more special that I could share with you to tell you how I feel about this land. But this is all I have, courtesy of Google Earth.
So thank you for coming to my little IMAX viewing today. Please check your seats to ensure you haven't left valuables behind. And if you wouldn't mind, if there is any popcorn left..please email it over. All this traipsing about on the land online has made me a little hungry.

Congratulations! I can't wait to see more pictures. Will you be harvesting the olives this year?

Awwwww!! AWESOME!! Congrats!! I'm so happy for you! I long to see those Atlas Mountains with own eyes...someday I will inshallah :)

Tex, thanks so much! We hope to harvest olives (although we don't really know what we are doing) and make our own olive oil!
Intisar (I love that beautiful name, BTW), thanks for your support! Listen when you are in Casablanca, try to have a drink or dinner at Rick's cafe. It's lovely. And definitely try to go to Ma Bretagne during the day for a drink - the view is breathtaking. And stop by and have lunch at Pauls. Yum! Wait until you see the big mosque -- it's incredible. Make sure to go on a tour of it - it is totally worth it. Okay, I better stop yapping...

I'm squinting my eyes real hard, and yes, there it is, that's the olive tree I want imported into my backyard in Geneva, yes Geneva Switzerland. I have heard of this, honestly, people that will use a helicopter to ship trees, beautiful old, majestic olive trees. This is afterall, switzerland. I think olive trees are the most amazing trees with their silvery leaves sparkling in the moonlight. Surely, you have one to spare...now if only I can organise that helicopter.

Aww, thank you, I love it too. It was given to me by my wonderful Moroccan friends. :)
So, is this the infamous "Rick's" from the movie "Casablanca?" I will have to check that out. I don't know what sight seeing I will end up doing, I'm not there for very long, but just being there will be so *big sigh* amazing ;) I will try to see as much as I can :) Thanks for the tips!

Oooooh, I can't wait for the guest house. ;)
Olives are my favorite. I wonder what they're like right off the tree? I'm guessing not very good?

Anna, I have your tree all picked out. You're going to love it! No worries for the heli-pad. We have an open area right behind the olive grove:-)
Intisar, I am sure you will be super busy while you are here, so I totally understand if you don't do too much site seeing this time around. Yes that would be the right Rick's Cafe. It is owned by a former American diplomat who did a million dollar renovation on it. Amazing!
Laurie, the guest house will be awaiting you! And yes, you definitely don't want to be eating those olives right off the tree...
