Steve at Brooklyn Rowhouse shared a website for a company that makes secret doorways. I loved the whole idea because it made me feel so Narnia. Like I could walk through the doorway and enter a different world.
Here in Morocco, many doors do just what they are supposed to do: they make you wonder what is inside, they beckon you in. I've noticed that so many house doors in North America are more or less of the ordinary variety. I know that we need to be concerned about security and "regular" doors are solid and practical. But at the same time, is it worth missing the opportunity to do something really special for your house or apartment? And if having some kind of door that really made you stop and stare was not feasible for your main entry door, well then what about the door to your bedroom?
I am looking to source several old doors and windows for our new house and guest house in Marrakech. I need to make a little trip to the city of Meknes where I have found wonderful salvage in the past. But I did find online Tazi Designs in California, which has beautiful doors for anyone in that vicinity who might be interested. Here are some pictures for us all to admire, because no matter where we live and what our doors really look like, we can always live in the perfect house online.
I would love to see pictures of lovely doors wherever you are. If you happen to have any, please send them my way. (I know Anna in France has the most amazing door to her house -- it is huge and it pivots. Imagine that.)
