Gorging. I know it’s wrong. I know the benefits of moderation in all things. But (she says shamefacedly), sometimes I just can’t stop from stuffing myself.
This is particularly true during the International Film Festival of Marrakech, taking place right now - from December 1 to 9. You see, I can’t get enough; I need my daily dose of film. This is the sixth annual film festival in Marrakech and the city is abuzz with hardcore cinema goers. So Chris and I are just part of the crowd. We had complimentary tickets to the opening of the festival at the incredible new Megarama with its eight movie halls, one of which holds 1300+ spectators in luxurious seats and boasts a screen 85 by 55 feet large (26 by 16 meters). Did I mention the amazing surround sound quality? Since then, night after night we have been lining up with friends, outside of one of Marrakech's several movie theaters. I tell you, this city knows how to organize a film festival. Most films are not much more than a dollar. Or if you have a pass (and I confess I do) you can see all the films you wish at the Palais des Congres for free! With films ending at 10:30 or so, the night is still young and so off we go to one of the city's restaurants, dining and drinking with friends before tottering back to the house in the wee hours of the morning. What fun. What a cinema orgy.
Is this the kind of thing that sounds appealing to you? If so, start planning for a little trip because next year there will be the seventh International Film Festival of Marrakech (Aren't you impressed with my ability to count sequentially?)....And I already can't wait. Will I see you there?
