Now while I dislike spending time in airports - and must do a lot of that for my job - there is a silver lining...the magazines. That person you see standing for hours in front of the magazine stand flipping through those delicious glossies...yup, that's me. Now don't get me wrong, it's not like I only unlawfully exploit the magazine stands; I mean, I understand that they're not libraries. Can't you see that my carry on bag is bulging with paid-for magazine booty, too? (Ahem, that is after I have paged through 436 others illegally). I am especially partial to those lovely design mags that cost an arm and a leg - I rationalize their purchase as blog research. (Yeah, yeah, sure, Maryam.)
So you can imagine my delight and surprise, when I saw that the recent World of Interiors Decoration Special had on its cover Gaultier in Morocco. That would be Jean-Paul Gaultier, the French fashion designer. Why I ran so quickly to the counter to fork over my $8.99 that the check out woman looked at me quizzically.
According to the article, Jean-Paul has a place in Marrakech's old city, the medina, which he "finds is an ideal retreat for hatching new ideas in the wake of each collection." And apparently, "he comes to escape the stress of the catwalk and to find inspiration in a place he can call home."
Well clearly, Jean-Paul and I have quite a bit in common. (She says in her red rubber gardening boots.) After all, my cat, Meow Meow is a bit psycho, and it's very stressful. I need to decompress, too. Let me now contemplate the exciting potential of, umm, insecticide. (organic of course)
Jean-Paul (In my imagination, we are on a first name basis.) also states that "Everything in this house and this city is a source of inspiration: the light, the colors, the people...And all these handicrafts, this culture - what know how!" Dear boy, I am growing more and more fond of you by the minute. How very charming.
But this is the part where you come in, friendly reader. What strategies can you come up with to enable me to best convince Jean-Paul to give me a fashion makeover? Please be your most persuasive. I will consider any and all ideas of the PG variety:-)
