Morocco: and the little weekend getaway place

A_house_scan_20002_1

Hello there, dear. So glad you could join me. I thought I would take you shopping for a small Moroccan palace today. Now don’t just stand there with that look on your face. You know, places to go and people to meet....

Well, here we are at the palace -- it's a 4 and half hour drive from Marrakesh. Just pretend you're someone important.  Uh-oh….no drawbridge.  I suppose that’s okay.  A moat is really so inconvenient in this day and age.  Besides where would you find the alligators to fill it?

Hmmm...this is not very Moroccan looking -- just proving that there is something for everyone in this country.  And for a palace, it's not really palatial  (where are the domes?  the spires?), although it is enooooooooormous.  The gardens are looking quite nice; I can see the potential for outdoor mint tea parties. But let’s not dawdle, let’s go inside.  Oh my, three salons (ahem, those would be living rooms or lounges to you) which total 10,000 square feet.  Imagine, each salon is bigger than most houses...! The fabulous soirees you could have – salsa! belly dancing! I’m not so sure about these gold chairs everywhere, however. A_bed_1 But no worries -- they can be swapped out for suede poufs in muted colors. You could have the world’s most hipster palace -- just think of it!  Not sure what you would do with all these bedrooms but  I’m rather fond of this white bed -- so see if you can keep it when you negotiate for purchase, will you?

And what do you know -- there is even a separate three bedroom mini-palace on the premises for when those irksome in-laws arrive…How very convenient.

Eeek, they’re kicking us out. I'm not sure what that "inappropriate attire" reference was all about. Next time, maybe we shouldn’t wear T-shirts and flip flops. But never fear, money talks.  So good luck with the realtor. You can chat with him about this property and others right here.

And let me know when you move in, so we can meet up. You could even come to Marrakesh for a long weekend – I’m sure you’ll need a break from wearing that silly tiara all the time, after all.:-)

Temptation! Temptation!

Thanks for the lovely virtual excursion in the middle of the work day!

so grand and beautiful but i much prefer the more down to earth abode...somewhere with a soul...:) thanks for the tour though xxx

That would be nice, only I'm not sure I could part with my tiara for even a moment.

Aside from the palm trees the exterior looks just like a Southern plantation. Beautiful house.

I'm on my way to convincing the boyfriend that Morocco is the place we both want to go for our next international trip. And your blog is helping me win the battle, especially with posts like these.

Thank you for the fabulous tour, dahling. Let me just look in my purse and take out my checkbook...hmmm...must have left it at home on the bed side table. Oh dear. I had envisioned myself standing atop the white bed a la Botticelli's Birth of Venus. Ah well, good thing we're just a click a way.

Hmmm ... for a moment I thought you had been kidnapped and taken to Malibu.

But I too liked the bed.

Smile ..

And to think we were just debating whether knocking the cupboard in the kitchen down would leave a big enough space for the fridge.....

Well - maybe one day we'll be minted and I'll send you that bed. Can't really see it though as a musician with a botanist!

hi maryam!

Hey, is that my new place, Maryam, for when I come over?! Thanks ever so much! I can do some good "protecting" in a place like that!

Yahay, second attempt - I got through!

Do you think maybe they'll rent out the palace for a couple of weeks in the summer? Or maybe we could park a caravan on the front terrace...

Of course I'd rather be staying with you, but, firstly, you haven't got your guesthouse ready yet, and secondly I think it's going to be rather over-subscribed when you first open it for visitors!! :-D

But, as a second choice, this little hovel would probably do....

:-)

I LOVED getting to see how the other half lives.. loved the all white bedroom ! Great post !

AS always a lovely post...had a great visit!

So sorry to do this, but "Tag--You're It." The meme is "Five reasons I blog." (It's my revenge for putting me under "shopping blogs." I far preferred my former place of honor!!!)

That must be why I like you so much... You treat me like the princess I am! Could you give the hint to my boyfriend? I think it might be time to move! ;)

the gardens looks very French like..

the gardens looks very French like..

How wonderful, but I'd rather live in a regular house. I still might wear a tiara every once in a while tho, because they are so pretty. But yes, a regular house will do, with a regular garden, and a wonderful habibi, that's all this princess needs. Let's see, I have the habibi, so now all I need is the house and garden. That shouldn't be too hard, right?

Hi. Ur blog is a visual treat for bored eyes...colourful, delightful, jolt in the seat red-blue...love it...just wanted to share that with you...drop by sometime...

Very grand, but somewhat incongruous in Morocco, non? Agree about the bed, although it doesn't look long enough to accommodate my gigantic 5'10" frame (surely an optical illusion?). :-)

Outdoor mint tea parties... oh my! I can only dream...

Very clever post!

Luxury is easy to over-do but very enjoyable to think about

You mean that's currently uninhabited? WOW! I bet you were oooh-ing and ahhh-ing throughout your visit. I certainly was! =P

I especially like the garden. The shrubs are really well-maintained! I spy with my little eye...a gazebo (wow, marbled?)!

Amazing! *nods head* =D
