Casablanca: A guesthouse story of Jnane Sherazade

Blog_13_3 Hmmm...there are some issues with this Moroccan boutique hotel in Casablanca ....The huge arrangements of fake flowers (oh why, oh why?) must go.  The fountain in the entryway with no water must have a drink.  The entire reception space must check into an interior design clinic for a facelift.  The heavy, old fashioned draperies must be retired.  The velvet and velour pillows and coverings everywhere (oh, gulp, those bedspreads) must be put away for all but a few cold months a year.  The scattered tchotchkas must be put in a box and given to Aunt Fatiha. (They would go perfectly with her doilies.) The $5 paper shades on the antique lamps must....well you get my drift.

But Jnane Sherazade, a little luxury Casablanca guesthouse has its lovely secrets, too.

Blog_2 The march of white pots up the front stairs.

Blog_3_2 The leafy lure of the Moroccan garden.

Blog_4 The gracious hand tiled terrace.

Blog_5_3 The glamorous marble floors.

Blog_6 The dramatic inlaid feature in the salon.

Blog_8_2 The elegant staircase.

Blog_7 The Harlequin-like velvet bread basket (Can't you just see this in white linen with black piping?)

Blog_10 The theatrical dining room.

Blog_12 The fanciful crystal chandeliers.

Blog_11 The fun and feminine table settings.

Blog_9 The chic, beckoning lady.  Shhh....did I hear her say,  Oh won't you please come and stay?

Where's the typo? Shahrazade ? it's not really a typo, it's the correct translitteration from Arabic... it's always a problem with translitterating.
Ot was there something else that I didn't see: my contact lenses are very dirty!!!!
Joan

Joan, hi there! No, I know it can be spelled several different ways but the way the hotel spells its name on all its materials and on its website is different than its sign, which is a bit confusing.

Hi Maryam! Thank you for your visit on my blogg. This white ball is a ball with shells on.. Very decorative :-)Can I ask you about something? Can you recommend a hotel or a place to stay for 7 days in februar in Marrakech? We are 2 adults and 1 child (girl 2 year). We want something cozy and not so expensive. :-)

beautiful photos, I am always marveling at the colors, the reds and golds together...beautiful.

Oh my, I rather like that place setting (even though I don't know if I'd want the hot pink candelabra in my home). -X

Sigh..there is no accounting for some people's taste, but it does seem to have a lot of redeeming features to overshadow the fake flowers. But still why oh why doesn't someone do something about it?

Hello,
I never visit this beautifull place, thanks for the information and secrets :)

your blog has been added to our bookmarks www.maroc-blogger.com
you can modify it's description. and add tags.. to reference if :)

You certainly got a mix with this hotel-the good, the bad and the ugly.

Details that make the difference between a well-oiled machine and a rickety old cart.

Maryam, after your enchanted carpet ride to the land of the pyramids, how did you end up here?
You weren't kidding about those bedspreads, were you (oh my)...GORGEOUS, covetable chandelier, though (ooh...my...hmm).
Have you figured out yet why Moroccans always go for either a single bare bulb dangling from a wire in the ceiling, or else the full blown knock-their-socks-off crystal chandeliers, even in the same house (though thankfully, not in the same room) ?

That chandelier is so absolutely gorgeous.

Ahh I ache to travel. I want to be in Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Now.

I love the white pots and can SO imagine that bread basket in white linen - piped in black! YES!!

Maybe you'd like something from here (or maybe not but they are cute and fresh anyway) check out her selection of styles. Bright and cheery.

I must create a Maryam inspired post of my "lush and luxurious" hotels just for you in the next couple of days ;-) I'd take your digs anyday! But, having written this, it just dawned on me that you are reflecting your experience upon your own venture.

Maryam, do you ever rest? My god woman, put your feet up and drink that wine you offered us in the last Four Seasons bathroom!!! Puh-lease!
And, I quite like the art deco lady in the last photograph. She looks art deco-ish, is she?

Get some relaxation in, will ya?

You see, it is true. All you have to do is put a classic piece of music on a website and people will think it's 'perfect'. You are too funny! Poor Aunt Fatiha!

Coming to your site always seems to stimulate my need for color, seeing as the decor in here in France is filled with browns and greys.

They shall be forgiven, seeing how many beautiful things the they actually offer.
;-)

Wow, you could be an interior design consultant too! I kind of like the kitschy plastic chandelier and candelabra. Love the art-deco piece and what a wonderful leafy garden!

Such beautiful and opulent colours. Have been inspired to recreate a similar thing in my bedroom, nearly there and can't wait to finish it.

Love your blog, thanks for reading gardenrooms the other day and for the nice comment. Love the garden photo in this post.
Best~Robyn

well,
good or bad,
what have you...

your artistic eye
zooms in for the yummy details
and we thank you for your visual editing.

sometimes travelers can overlook
bits of poor judgment in decor

if, say, the food is tasty...

:-)

part of why i travel
is to experience the wonder of a place,

but equally as entertaining,
is to experience *the truly tacky*
and live to tell about it,

exaggerating more
with each telling...

i love to ask myself,
**what we they thinking?**

the answer is,
~~they weren't.~~
