The National Geographic: and my Dad will be so pleased...

Blog_1_2 I grew up on the National Geographic.  I remember thumbing through the pages and saying to myself, Maryam, when you grow up, you will go here, and here, and here, my eleven-year old finger tapping pictures of places more amazing than anything I could ever imagine.

So it's a little thrill for me to see this blog mentioned in National Geographic Traveler this month.  Oh, my Dad will be so proud.  Take a peek right here.  Written by Mary Beth LaRue, this Marrakech Destination Guide includes some good links to good stuff.  The blog of my dear Marrakech friend, Elizabeth, is in there, too.  How fun!

Thanks also to Erik Gauger for his out-of-nowhere mini-review of my blog right here.  I think Notes From the Road must rate as one of the world's most beautiful travel sites.  Erik's photos are  stunning,  like this one here and this one here .  But my favorite are his moleskin journals.  See what I mean here.

Speaking of cool people doing cool things, I have been working with designer Jennifer Hill on the Peacock Pavilions website (Coming soon!).  I loved Jennifer's work and so I shamelessly propositioned her to help bring my vision of the PP site to life.  Jennifer is coming to Marrakech in July and has already started working on what is undoubtedly going to be among the prettiest illustrated books on Morocco of all time.  Read about it here on her adorable blog.

Image from my foyer:  a table made of an old contraption you tie onto a camel on which I have placed small-scale models of mosques, churches, and stupas from places I have been.  Roses from the garden in vintage Moroccan water tumblers purchased to hold flowers at Peacock Pavilions.

Oh my goodness, what a complete thrill. I hope you and your dad both are incredibly proud!

congratulation! and what a great project!

aw thanks. I can't wait to see the NG piece (and Peacock Pavilions)!

Hooray for the National Geographic Travel mention (and the rest). Those miniature designs are fantastic! Can't wait for your Peacock Pavilions to open.

Congrats! I am going to have to buy the latest edition of NG. I am fascinated by the building or Mosque on the left side of your photo? It appears to be from Maghreb? Is it for sale or can you find one like it? I am completely fascinated by that type of architecture.

Brett

Oh wow, Maryam!! So cool! Congrats!

Congrats!! Impressing!

I agree with you about Notes From the Road... that site is incredible beautiful. I LOVE the photos there.

Such great news all around - loved the write-ups about MM in NG and NFTR. I am waiting with baited breath to see the new website, and of course, for the official opening of PP. xo.

So it's fame at last for the both of us!
I went up to Barnes and Noble to see if the March issue of NG Traveler was out yet - but they still had Feb. on display (sigh).
Major jet lag this end. Don't know how you manage getting to exotic places.

Lots of love to all.

Congratulations- you deserve it! I am so excited for you- I will have to get the latest addition! I have been a lurker here but am glad now to be saying hello. I really enjoy your blog and the vivid and beautiful descriptions you post. The pictures are breathtaking.

I have something for you too- Enjoy!

maryam, you deserve every bit of goodness that the blogosphere (and publishing world) rewards you with - you deserve it! you have extraordinary talents and show us humor and beauty with each post. it is difficult (if not impossible) to NOT feel your positive energy through your posts, and you write so intimately and with such an inviting tone that all of out here who have never met you feel like we are sitting down to tea and wonderful conversation outside on your patio, dreaming, getting lost in your stories...

or is it just me? :)

I use to do the same thing but with postcards... I will go here, and here, and here... now, I have been to about 5% of these places... lots more to go... wonder if my site would reach the NGM pages... hehehe... congrats on making the great magazine...

How fabulous! John and I were also those National Geographic children... I love the miniatures on your table - very jealous!

Awesome! Congrats on the special mention.

Best,
Paz

Congratulations on the mention in National Geographic Traveler. What a thrill that must be! Make sure that your father leaves a few copies on the stands for other people to buy as well... :-)

Congratulations- I am thrilled for you!

Congratulations, Maryam! NGT is one of my favorite travel mags too. I have written one of these guides for NGT to Dubai with my husband - should appear on the website soon. Unfortunately we don't have any such cool blogs on Dubai to write about...

Congrats! That's so exciting! I love National Geographic.

National Geographic now that is an illustrious publication to find yourself in, very well done indeed.

I was reading Nat Geo last night (the Australian one)

Well don Maryam! Strange how childhood visons often come about! :o)

Oooh, congratulations! I'm thrilled that you're getting the recognition you deserve. This is a very exciting time for you - enjoy. x

Well ms Marrekech!!! you are just all over the place! Good for you! and thanks for all the wonderful links.

BIG Big Big Congrats, Maryam!!!

Yay Maryam - how wonderful! I too grew up with the 'wall' of yellow spines of National Geo mags. We were forbidden from cutting any images, which made them even more tempting.
Will have to pick up a copy of NGT when it comes out.
Congrats to you and Elizabeth. I can imagine you'll be out dancing with the peacocks ;)

I'm so excited for you, Maryam! I saw the article in National Geograhic. What a fabulous boost for Pavilions. You deserve all the accolades and attention you can get for the mountains of work you and your husband have put into this project. I know it's a labour of love to you as well. It's beginning to really come together now, isn't it? Soooo exciting.
