Marrakech and the peaceful chicken, or where to eat with kids

Oh she did not condone war in any shape or form.  So when she heard about Marrakech's Rotisserie de la Paix or the Rotisserie of Peace, she felt it was her pacifist obligation to investigate further.    She was hungry and so that helped, too.

Given the high profile nature of their outing, the blogging girl's daughter, Skylar, decided to dress the part.  She was convinced that the Rotisserie of Peace was quite similar to the United Nations.

Undoubtedly the High Commissioner of Rotisserie Chicken would approve of her shoes.

The Rotisserie of Peace was hidden behind walls in Marrakech's new city of Gueliz.  They walked through the doors and found a secret garden.

There were flowers.

And there were plants.

Most importantly, there was a large enclosed grassy space for children to play tag without drawing the un-peaceful ire of their parents.

They sat in the garden at the Moroccan tiled tables on the Moroccan tiled floors.  They were served Morocco's famous olives while they ogled the menu.

There was no squabbling over sausage and lamb chops:  they ordered conflict-resolving mixed grills -- it was the best they had had in Marrakech.

Blog_6

Thankfully they saved a wee bit of room for desert.

They rubbed their full bellies contentedly. Then they asked the waiter to put the leftovers in a bag.  It was for the pet lion in the garden.  He was a most docile and charming creature.  Just as as you would expect at a peaceful rotisserie....

if YOU were to take snaps
of little girls' feet
in heart-breakingly-charming shoes
as you travel
all around the place,
all around the world,
with
bits of grass, flooring,
carpet,
kittens,
whatever showing
somewhat...

if YOU did this
and put it in a book,

i would buy it sight unseen
knowing
i was getting my money's worth...

:-)

just a thought,
for your *spare time*...

like you don't have enough to do.

Now you've gone and made me realize it is 5:49pm and I've skipped lunch. That looks so good!

Skylar had the right idea to get dressed for your food venture. What good taste she has. ;-)

Paz

YUM! YUM
I'll be there soon............

Yum Yum too ;-) It seems delicious. Next time I go to Marrakech, I'll drop by. You forgot to tell us the price of this meal (to avoid bad surprises ;-)

Have a nice day

wow what a great idea! The book of little girls' feet in charming shoes with grass & tiles beneath... I'd buy that book too. Seriously. I know you have so much on your plate. But honestly, that would sell. How artisticly fulfilling that would be. (And possibly another income stream to help fulfill the dream of Peacock Pavilions???) And thank you for dressing up your daughter like an old fashioned little girl. So rare these days. Love it.

A lovely shoe picture Maryam. You could have everyone send you a shoe picture for a book. Here's mine taken New Years Eve.

I'm guessing that the chickens found the rotisserie to be somewhat less peaceful than you did. :-)

The kebab looks as good as the Persian-style kebab that my husband likes. Was it as good?

I came over here to look at doors, and found this charming eating out in peace with children instead. And even a peaceful lion to play with.

Oh, yes, the shoes, and the dress are adorable.

wonderful as ever Maryam. I cannot believe it is a year since I came to Marrakech and Morocco. I am dying to come back and when I do I will come to Peacock Pavilions and eat at the Rotisserie de la Paix (we never managed to find a good restaurant in the Gueliz - we followed the Lonely Planet guide to a restaurant with a parrot and it was so awful we couldn't bring ourselves to look further and retreated to the Medina)

I came to look at doors but find some fun posts instead. I am obviously too early.
I was surprised to see such English looking food in Morroco.

Mey Best food experience I get when I visit in Marrakesh are at the inexpensive food stalls in Jamaa Fna square and at Katanzaro restaurant in Gueliz at Rue Tarik Bin Ziad. If you ever go to Katanzaro try the Osso Bucco. The only problem is that Katanzaro is always packed.

Ok Maryam, I need to book a room ASAP! You are killing me!!! That is just lovely and delicious!!!!

What a lovely meal with a special girl. Hope the lion enjoyed the snack. Your dishes for PP are perfect. So you. You must be so excited for Oct. to come.

Stopping by to wave and to peek behind your door today. Such joy to see your sweetness dressed in her special frock and shoes, the flowers and the delicious peaceful rotisserie isn't bad looking either!

Blowing a kiss and a star from afar.
Constance

I want to book a room too, soon or I will die :-).

another delightful adventure filled with treats and beauties. i'm going there in my mind for my lunch break. ;o)

Wow, what is that dessert? It looks fantastic. It is cold and rainy here. Dreaming of running around in the grass...

All the best,

Maryam - looks like Skylar has terrific sense of dressing for the occasion and deserves a compliment! The food looks scrumptious !
