Moroccan caftans: a tale of passion

She started collecting vintage caftans.  She liked to look at them, to stroke them, to admire their handiwork.....She wasn't the only one, it seemed...

Suzy Menkes talks with Pierre Berge about the exhibition "Une Passion Marocaine" at the Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent Fondation in Paris.  On exhibit from March 14 to August 31. Thank you beautiful-karma Kaydee for the link.

P.S.  Lovely Richele from Richie Design clued me into Vivre's shopping picks inspired by Marrakech.  Check it out right here.

Yes, I saw the news too and will definitely have to make it to Paris to see it! I've ordered the catalogue (from Connaissance des Arts).....

...fantastic, i will go to see it this week end...i love caftans specially vintage ones.

Isn't it interesting that these were worn inside the house? And that they wore something much more modest and simple outside the house? As I sit here, typing in my PJ's, I marvel at the opposite nature of dressing here. Dress your worst in the home - pj's, sweats - and then get dressed up to go out! I know this is due to culture, but I still just think the difference is amazing.

Oh how I wish I could be there! Amazing exhibition!

Oh, kaftans are very simple and 'airy'. In Malaysia, we have 'baju kelawar'. If translated in english, it means batcloth. Nothing like batman but it's more like kaftan.:) I love the airy feeling that kaftan offers.

Oh, Maryam, thank you for sharing! If we're in Paris I will DRAG my husband by the ears to see this with me! What an incredible collection...How many caftans have you collected now? :)

I thought you might be interested in this a US catalog company [luxe] called Vivre does a weekly cool email. Today's was all about India's festival of Holi, Marrakech, color, and fashion based around that. You might want to email them and see if they would feature your property!

oops don't think the link went through.

it is impossi-bull not to fall in love in Morocco. IM-POSSIE-BULL!!!!

My husband came home from work today and brought in the mail. Being ill,and in bed all day, I flipped backwards through"Budget Travel" I was so excited to see my Blogging friend's beautiful picture on page 62. What a great article! Congrats. :).

Yet another alluring post. But can I add one more obsession to my plate? Hmm....who knows!

Lovely caftans ... but I must say that it is your photos of doors which draw me into your world ... the white arched door several posts ago is a spectacular photo. Happy Easter!

Such lovely caftans. A trip to Paris... wouldn't that be fabulous? And with such a wonderful excuse!
