I think I have fallen in love. Deeply in love. With a man named Alberto Pinto. I am not quite sure how to break it to Chris. I am hoping he will be understanding. That we can work out some kind of arrangement. Because a love like this...well, let's just say, there are only a few in a life time. Of that I am quite sure.
It's all lovely My Marrakesh reader, Ruzana's fault. It was she that made the introduction. I know it's cowardly to blame it on her. But if it's any small comfort to Chris, Alberto can only be mine in the pages of a book. Alberto Pinto Orientalism, to be specific.
Lucky Ruzana has run her hands over the book pages in real life. Lingered over the pictures, read the text in private. I must admit (and I know it's not nice), I'm jealous. Now before being so quick to judge me, just listen to what Ruzana has to say about the experience. And then maybe you'll understand....
Alberto Pinto Orientalism is not for the conservative. Those expecting to see traditional Moroccan décor are in for a shock. These homes of the jet set are anything but traditional. Instead renowned designer Alberto Pinto's interiors feature his own interpretation of Orientalist designs, creating rooms nothing short of spectacular. The boundaries of Moorish, Syrian, Egyptian, Ottoman, Indian and Chinese styles are all blurred as he marries these styles with European design, resulting in dramatic interiors. Dramatic is an understatement.
Intricate handicraft is used both subtlety and boldly. Rooms resplendent with stucco stalactites, calligraphic friezes, and coffered cedar ceilings carved and inlaid are only a few examples of how Pinto designs spaces to delight the senses. The color palettes range widely from classic Mediterranean blue and white, to intense Delacroix red, to monochromatic yet elegant black and white, to even feminine pale pink.
It is obvious Pinto does not follow any set rules, allowing his interiors to be free of any one style. While not all the interiors would appeal to everyone, a reader will come away with a fresh perspective on the interior design of the Middle East.
I have already ordered my own copy of Alberto Pinto Orientalism. I can't reveal my plans in any great detail, but let me just say, I am planning to wear my favorite perfume while reading it....
