Oh, c'mon, admit it: you're a bit of a hippie at heart. No, I am not talking about your propensity to smoke the funny stuff (although I wouldn't put it past you). I am talking about that part of you that is just so kick back, so mellow, so Crosby, Stills and Nash that it almost makes you wish Woodstock would happen all over again.....
Friend, I do understand. If you must know, I was channeling my inner hippie, this past weekend, too. Let me explain.
About 40 kilometers outside of Marrakech, heading into the mountains, there is a big barrage. Around it you can find (hushed voice) hippie havens.... Over the weekend, I and one hippie husband, 5 French hippie friends and a crew of midget sized hippies-in-training, headed in that direction.... (We wanted to pile into a flower power van, but unfortunately none were available in Marrakech.)
As you know, hippies have a penchant for alternative shelter: yurts, teepees, that sort of thing. In our case, it was a camp of Berber tents right on the water. (Check out the campfire. Can't you just see us crazy hippies dancing around it in winter?)
The pots dotting the landscape were the most gorgeous blue. Even the ropes holding down the tents were color coordinated. (Who knew that hippie tent proprietors were so color conscious?)
The inside of our tent also was decorated in electric blue with sequins. Very kitsch, umm...I mean, groovy.
Red blankets with sequins too. If you squint your eyes, baby, it looks psychedelic.
We wore appropriate hippie clothing and jewelery. I wanted to wear my peace sign necklace but I must have lost it during that sit in I sat in on global warming or was it saving the whales....?
We also carried funky accessories. Check out this hot pink basket bag. I'm digging it.
Of course we all wore hippie footware (ahem, none at all). In fact, we hung out in our bathing suits and towels for most of the day. Very chilled out.
For about $9.50 per person, we had a lunch of salad, beef shish kabab and french fries. There were slices of melon and orange with cinnamon for desert. (No fancy French sauces, or stuff that requires multiple sized forks. )
After lunch, we just swam, rented pedal boats ($4.50/hour), and enjoyed the view from our tent. Over glasses of mint tea we planned our collective hippie futures. We're thinking about starting a communal organic farm. (We're into composting, if you know what I mean.) There is always room for one more - so let me know if you want to join in....
